Hindus.
(1) Short title and extent -Sec.1

This Act may be called the Hindu Succession Act, 1956.

It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

THE HINDU SUCCESSION ACT, 1956
This is an Act to correct and systematise the law relating to distribution of
property of Hindu persons dying without making a will.
(1) Short title and extent -Sec.1
This Act applies to persons who are Hindu, Buddhist, Jaina, or Sikh by religion.
- This Act may be called the Hindu Succession Act, 1956.
- Succession : The process by which, on the death of a person, his heirs
or legatees acqure the property of the deceased.
- Legatee : The person to whom property is left by the last will of the owner.
- It extends to the whole of India except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
